From spur gears to custom gear designs
We manufacture gears for drive technology according to drawings—as custom-made parts, in small batches, or in medium-sized production runs. In addition to classic external and internal gear teeth, our manufacturing range includes gear shafts, splined shafts, and special gear geometries.
What type of gearing does your drive system require?
Depending on the component, we manufacture:
External threads or internal threads?
If, on the other hand, the design requires internal gear teeth, Dittler also manufactures components with internal gear teeth. These are used, for example, in compact gear designs.
Thus, both external and internal gear teeth are available for various drive concepts.
Have straight and helical gears custom-manufactured
In straight-toothed spur gears, the teeth run parallel to the shaft axis. In helical gears, however, the tooth line is inclined relative to the axis.
Dittler manufactures both variants according to the defined gear specifications. Which design is intended for a specific drive is determined by the design and technical requirements of the assembly.
Thus, manufacturing is not detached from the drive but follows the specified parameters of the respective component.
Geared Shafts and Shaft-Hub Connections
Among other products, Dittler manufactures notched gear hubs according to DIN 5481 as well as involute gear hubs according to DIN 5480 and DIN 5482.
This allows for the production of various profiles in accordance with the drawing and the specified standard and gear data.
If a shaft requires additional machining beyond the gear cutting, other manufacturing processes can be incorporated depending on the component.
Variable transmission instead of conventional continuous operation
Unlike traditional circular gears, these geometries can be used when a variable gear ratio or a deliberately non-uniform motion profile is required.
The manufacture of these specialty gears is one of Dittler’s areas of expertise. This allows for the implementation of drive concepts in which conventional gear geometries do not match the desired motion characteristics.
If a drive component is no longer available
In such cases, Dittler evaluates the possibility of remanufacturing gears and toothed drive components.
With an existing drawing, manufacturability can be assessed based on the technical data. If sufficient documentation is no longer available, an existing sample part can serve as the basis for reverse engineering, depending on the specific situation.
In this way, the possibility of remanufacturing can be evaluated for components such as gears, gear shafts, splined shafts, or other custom parts.
CNC Machining for Geared Components
That is why Dittler combines gear manufacturing with CNC contract manufacturing. Services include CNC turning, CNC milling, grooving, and grinding. For milling, 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining is available.
The range of materials includes, among others, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, castings, and engineering plastics.
This allows, for example, the basic geometry of a shaft to be produced first by turning or milling and then supplemented with the required gear teeth. Multiple machining steps can thus be combined within a coordinated manufacturing process.
Controlled Manufacturing for Custom Drive Components
The company operates in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. Depending on customer specifications, measurement reports and initial sample inspection reports can also be provided.
Production is geared toward individual parts, small series, and medium-sized batches. Dittler has been active in the fields of drive and machining technology since 1999.
Your gear tooth data becomes a component
If possible, please send us a technical drawing with the available specifications regarding the gearing, dimensions, material, and quantity. When reproducing an existing component, a sample part and information about the mating gear or gear stage may also be helpful.
Frequently Asked Questions About Gear Manufacturing for Drive Technology
Does Dittler manufacture both internal and external gears?
Yes. Our manufacturing capabilities include both externally and internally toothed components produced according to technical specifications.
What types of special gears can be manufactured?
Among other things, Dittler manufactures non-circular gears, oval gears, and elliptical gears, as well as other custom gear designs based on drawings.
Are spur gears and V-groove gears also possible?
Yes. In addition to standard gears, the range of services includes gear shafts, splined shafts, and various tooth profiles.
Can a single gear be manufactured?
Yes. Production is geared toward individual parts, small batches, and medium batch sizes.
What happens when there are no more subscriptions?
When producing a replacement part, it is possible—depending on the existing component—to determine whether a prototype can be reconstructed using reverse engineering.
Does Dittler also handle additional processing steps?
Yes. Depending on the component, gear manufacturing can be combined with CNC turning, CNC milling, slotting, or grinding.
Custom Gear Manufacturing for Your Drive System
Dittler manufactures gear components tailored to the technical requirements of your drive design.
Additional CNC processes allow for further machining steps on the part as specified in the drawing, if required.
