Precision grinding for custom components in mechanical engineering and industry.
Grinding is used in particular when components require further processing after previous machining steps or when defined functional surfaces are required. Grinding can also be part of the manufacturing process for gear-cut and heat-treated components.
Our manufacturing services are aimed in particular at companies that need individual parts, small production runs, replacement parts, or custom solutions.
Have components precision-ground
At Dittler, we therefore consider not only the individual grinding process but also the entire part as specified in the drawing, upon request.
In addition to grinding, we have a wide range of in-house manufacturing capabilities at our disposal.
These include, among other things, CNC turning and CNC milling, as well as gear cutting and slotting. This enables an optimally coordinated and efficient manufacturing process, particularly for components requiring multiple machining steps.
Having Individual Parts and Small Batches Ground
This makes our manufacturing particularly attractive for, for example:
Grinding as Part of Component Manufacturing
For example, a workpiece may first be turned or milled. Depending on the design, this is followed by gear cutting, heat treatment, or grinding.
The available Dittler documentation explicitly lists grinding as a complementary manufacturing process for gears, shafts, hubs, and other mechanical components. This allows, for example, bores, hubs, bearing seats, flat surfaces, and other mating surfaces to be integrated into a coordinated manufacturing process.
For you, this means: You are not limited to requesting just a single machining step.
Send us the complete part drawing. We will determine which machining steps are necessary to achieve the desired result and which of these can be carried out in our production facility.
Grinding of Gears and Geared Components
In gear-cut components, the base body, bores, hubs, bearing seats, and gear teeth must fit together functionally. Depending on the material and technical requirements, heat treatment may also be part of the manufacturing process.
For hardened components, it is therefore essential to determine during the manufacturing planning phase which areas will be finished before heat treatment and which after.
For corresponding straight-tooth gears, Dittler’s documentation lists grinding the tooth flanks after heat treatment as a possible method.
Thanks to our combination of gear cutting and machining technology, we can consider the component as a whole and coordinate the individual machining steps accordingly.
Grinding and CNC Machining—All Under One Roof
Grinding with Coordinated Component Manufacturing
From individual parts based on drawings to small production runs, this allows different machining steps to be coordinated with one another.
Send us your drawing or CAD data and let us evaluate the manufacturing options for your component.
Grinding Operations for Mechanical Engineering and Industry
These include, for example, machine builders, design engineers, technical buyers, and maintenance personnel.
Instead of considering a component separately for turning, milling, gear cutting, and grinding, the technically necessary steps can be taken into account as early as the manufacturing planning stage.
This reduces interfaces and enables a coordinated workflow for the entire part as specified in the drawing.
Grinding After Heat Treatment
This is especially true when heat treatment is planned. The material, hardness, and required design influence whether certain areas are finished before or after heat treatment. Dittler’s documentation explicitly highlights this relationship, particularly for gear-toothed and hardened components.
For this reason, grinding should be taken into account as early as the planning stage of the entire manufacturing process.
Through our network, external heat treatments and surface treatments can also be integrated into the manufacturing process as needed.
Quality Assurance for Ground Components
Dittler GmbH’s quality management system is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. The documented processes include inspections during production as well as final inspections.
Among other methods, 3D coordinate measuring technology is available for component inspection. Upon request, measurement reports and initial sample inspection reports can also be provided.
This allows the grinding process to be integrated into a controlled manufacturing process for the entire workpiece.
From the drawing to the finished part
Please send us your technical drawing and the specifications for the component.
2. Check feasibility
We review the geometry, material, quantity, and the required machining steps.
3. Define the manufacturing process
If additional processes are required in addition to grinding, these can be taken into account during planning.
4. Manufacture and machine the component
Once approved, manufacturing proceeds in accordance with the agreed-upon technical requirements.
5. Inspect quality
Finally, the workpiece is inspected according to the specified requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions About Grinding
What types of components can Dittler grind?
The documentation lists grinding as a machining option for, among other things, gears, shafts, hubs, and other machine components. We determine whether a specific workpiece can be machined based on the drawing and technical requirements.
Can individual parts be sanded as well?
Yes. Dittler's manufacturing operations are focused in particular on individual parts, small production runs, and customized solutions.
Can hardened components be ground?
The Dittler documents specifically mention grinding for tooth flanks that must be machined after heat treatment. The specific manufacturing process depends on the material, hardness, geometry, and requirements of the component.
Can Dittler handle other machining operations in addition to grinding?
Yes. In addition, we offer CNC turning, CNC milling, gear cutting, and grooving. This allows us to combine multiple manufacturing steps, depending on the component.
What documents should I send with my request?
Ideally, please send a technical drawing or existing CAD data, along with information on the material, quantity, tolerances, and the functional surfaces to be machined.
