Custom-made gear sets for new systems
Dittler manufactures gears for plant construction and plant engineering based on technical drawings and specific component requirements. From classic spur gears to internal gearings and non-circular gears, our focus is on gear cutting. If a component requires additional machining, we supplement gear manufacturing with CNC turning, CNC milling, slotting, and grinding.
Gear teeth designed to match the system's construction
Dittler manufactures individual parts, small series, and medium-sized batches. This enables the company to meet the needs of new plant projects as well as custom designs and recurring orders.
The range of manufacturing services includes, among other things:
From spur gears to toothed shafts
Internally toothed components can also be manufactured if the design calls for internal teeth.
Depending on the application, straight or helical tooth profiles are possible. In addition, we manufacture gear shafts and spline shafts as well as involute gear teeth in accordance with DIN 5480 and DIN 5482.
This allows us to manufacture various gear components for a system specifically according to the existing design data.
When a system requires specific movements
This is an area where Dittler excels: oval gears, elliptical gears, and non-circular gears.
Such special gears are suitable for use in packaging machines, printing and textile machines, conveyor systems, and assembly equipment, among other applications. Their geometry enables motion sequences that cannot be achieved in the same way with a conventional circular gear.
Even single units and small quantities can be manufactured.
Replacement for a gear that is no longer available
Dittler can reproduce gears and gear-toothed components. If a drawing is available, it serves as the basis for the manufacturing review. If the original design documents are missing, an existing sample can be used for reconstruction, depending on the component.
As part of the reverse engineering process, relevant features of the existing component are recorded to assess the feasibility of remanufacturing.
This offers a solution for custom-made gears, gear shafts, splined shafts, or other mechanical components whose original source of supply is no longer available.
CNC Machining for Plant Components
That is why Dittler supplements its gear manufacturing for plant engineering with traditional contract manufacturing.
Services include CNC turning, 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling, grooving, and grinding.
Materials machined include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, castings, and engineering plastics such as POM, PEEK, and PA.
This depth of manufacturing is particularly relevant for components with multiple machining features.
For example, the basic geometry can first be turned or milled before the required gear teeth are cut.
Manufacturing and Testing Coordinated with Each Other
Dittler operates under a quality management system compliant with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. A separate metrology room equipped with Zeiss 3-coordinate measuring technology is available for in-process and final inspections.
Measurement reports and initial sample inspection reports can also be prepared according to customer specifications.
Dittler has been active in drive and machining technology since 1999. The combination of gear cutting and CNC machining enables the production of a wide variety of parts based on technical drawings for industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gears for Plant Engineering
What types of gears does Dittler manufacture for equipment?
Among other things, the company manufactures spur gears, external and internal gear teeth, straight and helical gear teeth, gear shafts, spline shafts, as well as oval, elliptical, and non-circular gears.
Can custom gears be manufactured as one-off items?
Yes. Our manufacturing process is designed, among other things, for individual parts and small production runs. This also applies to special gear geometries.
What can be done if there is no drawing for an old gear?
Depending on the component, an existing sample can serve as the basis for reconstruction and subsequent reproduction as part of the reverse engineering process.
Does Dittler also handle all aspects of gear cutting?
Yes. In addition to gear cutting, we offer CNC turning, CNC milling, grooving, and grinding.
What materials can be processed?
The documented range of materials includes, among others, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, cast metal, and engineering plastics such as POM, PEEK, and PA.
What production volumes is the manufacturing process designed for?
Dittler manufactures individual parts, small batches, and medium-sized batches.
